Terms of Service
Effective Date: December 15, 2025
This Agreement is made between Tom Chapman trading as 1541.co.uk ("the Consultant") and The individual purchasing services ("the Client").
1. Services Provided
1.1 Scope of Services: The Consultant provides academic coaching, mentoring, and document review services ("The Services"). The specific format of these sessions (e.g., live video calls, asynchronous review) will be agreed upon at the time of booking.
1.2 Document Review: Where document review is provided:
- Feedback will be in the form of comments, annotations, and structural advice.
- Exclusion: The Consultant will not write, rewrite, paraphrase, or edit the content directly. The Client retains full responsibility for the authorship of their work.
2. Pricing & Payment
2.1 Rates: Fees for services are charged in accordance with the Current Rates published on the Consultant's website or as quoted in writing prior to booking.
2.2 Bundles: Where a block of sessions is purchased:
- Fees are payable in full in advance.
- Bundle sessions must be used within 6 months of purchase. Unused sessions are non-refundable after this period.
2.3 Document Review: Fees for document review are calculated based on word count (pro-rata) or hourly rate, as agreed prior to commencement. Payment must be settled before feedback is released.
2.4 Payment Methods: Payments must be made via the method specified on the invoice (e.g., Bank Transfer or Stripe).
3. Statutory Rights & Cancellations (Cooling-Off Period)
3.1 Right to Cancel: Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the statutory right to cancel this agreement within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason.
3.2 Refunds: If you cancel within this 14-day period, we will reimburse all payments received from you.
3.3 Services Commencing Immediately: By booking a session that takes place within this 14-day cooling-off period, you expressly request for the service to begin immediately. You acknowledge that if you subsequently cancel, you will be charged for any sessions already delivered (pro-rata) up to the point of cancellation, and you waive the right to a full refund for those completed services.
4. Booking, Attendance & Session Timing
4.1 Scheduling: Sessions are booked by mutual agreement via the agreed platform (e.g., Zoom/Teams).
4.2 Session Timing (Hard Stop):
- Sessions will end at the scheduled time to ensure fairness to other students.
- If the Client arrives late, the session will still finish at the original end time. The full session fee remains payable.
4.3 Cancellation Policy:
- More than 24 hours' notice: No charge. The session can be rescheduled.
- Less than 24 hours' notice: The full session fee is forfeited (or deducted from the bundle).
- No-Show: If the Client is more than 15 minutes late without notice, the session is cancelled and the fee is forfeited.
4.4 Rescheduling Rules:
- Legitimately postponed sessions (given with >24 hours' notice) must be rescheduled and used within 30 days of the original date. They cannot be carried over indefinitely.
- Emergency Clause: In the event of a genuine emergency (e.g., sudden medical issue), the Consultant may, at their discretion, waive the cancellation fee. This is limited to one instance per term.
5. Academic Integrity & Ethics
5.1 No Ghostwriting: The Consultant strictly adheres to UK university regulations regarding academic malpractice and "contract cheating."
5.2 Client Responsibility: The Consultant supports the Client’s learning process but will never:
- Write assignments for the Client.
- Guarantee a specific grade or degree classification.
- Complete online tests or exams on behalf of the Client.
5.3 Termination: If the Client requests academic misconduct (e.g., "Can you write this for me?"), the Consultant reserves the right to terminate the relationship immediately without refund.
6. Confidentiality & Intellectual Property
6.1 Privacy: All work submitted by the Client is strictly confidential. It will never be shared, published, or sold.
6.2 Data Protection: Personal data is processed in accordance with the 1541.co.uk Privacy Policy.
6.3 Materials: Any teaching materials or frameworks provided remain the intellectual property of the Consultant and are for the Client's personal use only.
7. Limitation of Liability
7.1 The Consultant provides guidance based on experience but does not bear responsibility for the final grade awarded by the Client’s university.
7.2 The Consultant is not liable for technical failures on the Client’s end, though reasonable efforts will be made to reschedule in such events.
